Good Talk App and Website Privacy Policy
Effective: March 15, 2024
Updated: April 14, 2026
Good Talk ("Good Talk", "we", "us", or "our") operates the Good Talk mobile application and website for individual, non-school use.
This Privacy Policy explains how the Good Talk app and website collect, use, disclose, and safeguard information.
Good Talk EDU is the same Good Talk experience operated for schools, districts, and education institutions under a Good Talk EDU contract, with school-specific rules for access, data use, student protection, and student data.
The Good Talk EDU Privacy Policy and Good Talk EDU Terms of Use apply when Good Talk is used under a Good Talk EDU contract with a school, district, or education institution.
Your privacy and trust is sacred to us.
Overview
- The app can be used without creating an account. Optional sign-in may be available so users can see their scores and other data across signed-in devices.
- Scenarios you create may be available to other users. Do not include names, contact information, or other details that identify real people in a scenario.
- Conversation practice, coaching feedback, scores, and transcripts are private to your app experience or account and are not displayed to other app users.
- The Good Talk app and website may use usage, diagnostic, aggregated, or de-identified information to operate, improve, secure, and explain Good Talk.
- Student data from Good Talk EDU is not used for Good Talk app marketing, published examples, targeted advertising, or unrelated commercial purposes.
- We do not sell Good Talk app data or use it for targeted advertising.
Information We Collect
- Shared scenarios: When you create a scenario, the scenario, its title, description, categories, and scenario setup may be made available for other users to practice with.
- Conversation content and coaching data: We process simulated conversation messages, coaching requests, suggestions, scores, safety flags, feedback, and related scenario details so Good Talk can provide conversation practice and coaching.
- Voice mode data: If you use voice features, audio is streamed for real-time processing and transcription. Good Talk stores conversation messages and voice transcripts, but raw microphone audio is not stored as a conversation record in the app database or by our vendors.
- Application identifier and device information: When you launch the app, Good Talk creates a random app identifier. The identifier is stored on your device using platform secure storage where available. On iOS, secure storage may survive uninstalling and reinstalling the app. We may also collect app version, device model, platform, operating system, and similar technical information for troubleshooting and diagnostic purposes only.
- Optional account information: If you sign in, we collect account information from the identity provider, such as email address, display name, profile image, user identifiers, and login timestamps. This information is used only for the purpose of providing the Good Talk service. If account migration is offered, you may choose whether to move anonymous device-local history into the signed-in account or start fresh.
- Usage, analytics, and diagnostic information: We collect website and app usage information, such as pages or screens viewed, feature events, conversation duration, coaching requests, error logs, security events, AI usage metadata, token and cost metadata, and similar diagnostics.
- Support communications: If you contact us for support or feedback, we collect the information you choose to provide.
How We Use Information
- To provide the Good Talk app, website, simulated conversation practice, coaching, voice features, scores, and feedback.
- To maintain conversation history, recent activity, usage limits, app state, and account or device continuity.
- To authenticate optional signed-in users and support app history migration when selected by the user.
- To generate, organize, and display shared scenarios.
- To perform safety checks, block or exclude content that violates our rules, and provide safety-oriented responses where appropriate.
- To monitor usage, troubleshoot errors, protect security, prevent abuse, and maintain service reliability.
- To provide customer support and respond to requests.
- To improve Good Talk using usage information, diagnostics, aggregated information, and de-identified information.
- De-identified snippets of conversation content may be used for marketing or promotional purposes. This does NOT apply to Good Talk EDU Student Data.
AI Processing
Good Talk uses AI service providers to provide simulated conversations, coaching, scoring, scenario metadata, safety checks, voice responses, and transcription.
This means conversation prompts, conversation history, text, audio streams, transcripts, generated responses, and related metadata may be sent to AI providers to provide the service.
We have agreements with our AI providers that prohibit storing Good Talk content, or using Good Talk content to train their models.
Good Talk does not use app conversations to train Good Talk AI models.
